Description

Strawberry Protein Balls are a delicious and healthy snack that combines the natural sweetness of strawberries with protein-packed ingredients. These no-bake, easy-to-make treats are perfect for on-the-go energy boosts, pre- or post-workout snacks, or a guilt-free dessert option. Made with oat flour, vanilla protein powder, cream cheese, Greek yogurt, and freeze-dried strawberries, they offer a delightful balance of flavors and textures with optional white chocolate chips for a touch of indulgence.

Ingredients

Scale

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 cup oat flour (or finely ground rolled oats)
  • ½ cup vanilla protein powder (whey or plant-based)
  • ¼ teaspoon sea salt
  • ½ cup freeze-dried strawberries, crushed (or ¼ cup strawberry puree)
  • 1 tablespoon white chocolate chips or mini chocolate chips (optional)
  • 1–2 tablespoons almond flour or extra oats, if needed to thicken

Wet Ingredients

  • ¼ cup cream cheese (softened, or dairy-free alternative)
  • ¼ cup Greek yogurt (plain or vanilla)
  • ¼ cup maple syrup or honey
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Strawberries: If using freeze-dried strawberries, crush them finely by hand or with a food processor to create a powder; if using fresh strawberries, puree them until smooth to integrate easily into the dough.
  2. Combine Dry Ingredients: In a mixing bowl, stir together oat flour, protein powder, sea salt, and the crushed freeze-dried strawberries (or strawberry puree), ensuring even distribution of all dry components.
  3. Add Wet Ingredients: Mix in the softened cream cheese, Greek yogurt, maple syrup (or honey), and vanilla extract. Stir thoroughly until the mixture forms a thick and smooth dough; if it feels too sticky, incorporate additional oat flour or almond flour one tablespoon at a time to achieve the desired consistency.
  4. Incorporate Chocolate Chips: Gently fold in white chocolate chips or mini chocolate chips if using, to add a sweet and creamy texture contrast within the balls.
  5. Form the Balls: Using a tablespoon or cookie scoop, portion the mixture, then roll between your palms to create uniform, smooth balls.
  6. Chill and Store: Place the formed protein balls in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes to firm up. Store them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 7 days or freeze for longer preservation.

Notes

  • For vegan and dairy-free options, substitute cream cheese with a plant-based alternative and use a vegan protein powder and non-dairy yogurt.
  • If the mixture is too sticky, almond flour or extra oat flour can be added gradually until the correct firmness is achieved.
  • Freeze-dried strawberries provide concentrated flavor without added moisture, but fresh strawberry puree can be used for a fresher taste and softer texture.
  • These protein balls can be customized by adding nuts, seeds, or different flavor extracts as desired.
  • Store the balls in an airtight container and keep refrigerated to maintain freshness and texture.
