Description

These soft and fluffy Sour Cream Dinner Rolls are a perfect homemade addition to any meal. Made with Bisquick baking mix, sour cream, and a hint of honey, these rolls are easy to prepare and have a rich, tender texture. A buttery garlic topping adds a savory finish, making them irresistible for dinner or special occasions.

Ingredients

Scale

Roll Dough

  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 0.25 oz packet instant yeast (2¼ teaspoons)
  • 2½ cups Bisquick baking mix (plus more as needed)

Topping

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter (melted)
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Warm and Activate Yeast: In a large microwave-safe bowl, warm the sour cream in the microwave for about 1 minute until it reaches 110°F to 115°F. Stir in the honey and instant yeast until fully blended.
  2. Make and Knead Dough: Add the Bisquick baking mix to the sour cream mixture and stir until a sticky dough forms. Add more Bisquick if necessary. Stretch and fold the dough several times in the bowl or turn it out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 3-4 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  3. Shape and Proof Rolls: Spray an 8-inch square baking pan with cooking spray. Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces, shape each into a ball, and place them in the pan. Cover with a towel and let rise in a warm spot for about 30 minutes, or until doubled in size.
  4. Bake Rolls: Preheat the oven to 350°F while the dough rises. Uncover the rolls and bake for 15–20 minutes until the tops are golden brown.
  5. Prepare Garlic Butter and Finish: While the rolls bake, mix the garlic powder into the melted butter. Brush this mixture over the warm rolls immediately after baking. Serve the rolls warm for best flavor.

Notes

  • Make sure the sour cream is warmed to the proper temperature (110°F to 115°F) to properly activate the yeast without killing it.
  • If the dough is too sticky, add Bisquick a tablespoon at a time until it is manageable but still soft.
  • For extra flavor, you can sprinkle some fresh herbs like parsley or rosemary on top of the garlic butter before serving.
  • These rolls are best consumed the same day but can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
  • Reheat gently in the oven wrapped in foil to maintain softness.
