Description

This comforting Slow Cooker Salisbury Meatballs recipe features tender frozen meatballs simmered in a savory mushroom brown gravy, making it an easy and satisfying meal perfect for busy days. The rich blend of dried onion, garlic powder, and hearty mushrooms slow-cooked to perfection creates a classic American dish that’s delicious served over creamy mashed potatoes.

Ingredients

Scale

Meatballs & Vegetables

  • 32 oz package frozen meatballs
  • 8 oz package baby bella or button mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 tablespoon minced dried onion
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

Gravy

  • 2 packages dry brown gravy mix
  • 1 ¾ cups water
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Optional Garnish

  • Fresh minced parsley

Instructions

  1. Prepare Ingredients: Add the frozen meatballs, sliced mushrooms, minced dried onion, and garlic powder to the bottom of a 5-quart or larger slow cooker, evenly distributing all ingredients.
  2. Make Gravy: In a separate bowl, whisk together the two dry brown gravy mix packets and 1 ¾ cups of water until the mixture is smooth and free of lumps.
  3. Combine and Cook: Pour the prepared gravy over the meatballs and vegetables in the slow cooker. Stir gently to combine, cover with the lid, and cook on low for 4 to 5 hours or on high for 2 to 3 hours until the meatballs are fully cooked and heated through.
  4. Season and Serve: Once cooking is complete, taste and adjust seasoning with salt and pepper as desired. Serve the Salisbury meatballs hot, ideally over mashed potatoes, and garnish with fresh minced parsley if using. Alternatively, keep warm in the slow cooker until ready to serve.

Notes

  • You can use either baby bella or button mushrooms depending on your preference or availability.
  • For a thicker gravy, mix an additional tablespoon of gravy mix with a little water and stir it into the slow cooker during the last 30 minutes of cooking.
  • If using fresh onions instead of dried, sauté them before adding to the slow cooker for enhanced flavor.
  • This recipe freezes well; store leftover meatballs and gravy in airtight containers for up to 3 months.
  • Serve over mashed potatoes, rice, or egg noodles for a complete meal.
