Ingredients
Scale
Sausage Mixture
- 1 pound breakfast sausage
- 6 large eggs
- 1/4 cup milk
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
Dough and Topping
- 8 refrigerated crescent roll dough sheets
- 2 tablespoons butter, melted
- Optional garnish: chopped parsley or chives
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to prepare for baking the rolls.
- Cook the sausage: In a frying pan over medium heat, cook the breakfast sausage until browned and fully cooked, breaking it apart with a spatula as it cooks. Once done, drain any excess fat and set the sausage aside in a bowl.
- Prepare the egg mixture: In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, salt, and pepper until well combined.
- Scramble the eggs: Pour the egg mixture into a nonstick skillet and cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally until the eggs are scrambled and just set. Remove from heat promptly to avoid overcooking.
- Combine sausage and cheese: Stir the cooked sausage and shredded cheddar cheese into the scrambled eggs until evenly mixed.
- Prepare the dough: Open the crescent roll dough and separate into 8 rectangles, pressing perforations together if necessary to form the shapes.
- Fill the dough: Place a generous spoonful of the sausage and egg mixture onto the wider end of each dough rectangle.
- Roll the dough: Roll each rectangle starting from the wide end, tucking in the sides as you go, creating tight rolls to hold the filling.
- Arrange on baking sheet: Place the rolls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or a non-stick baking mat to prevent sticking.
- Brush with butter: Brush the tops of the rolls with melted butter to ensure a golden, glossy finish after baking.
- Bake the rolls: Bake the rolls in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until they are golden brown and cooked through.
- Cool and garnish: Remove the rolls from the oven and allow them to cool slightly before serving. Garnish with chopped parsley or chives if desired for added color and flavor.
Notes
- You can substitute the breakfast sausage with turkey sausage for a leaner option.
- Use any shredded cheese you prefer, such as mozzarella or pepper jack.
- For extra flavor, add diced onions or bell peppers to the sausage while cooking.
- Store leftover rolls in an airtight container and reheat in the oven to maintain crispness.
- These rolls can be made ahead and frozen before baking; bake directly from frozen adding a few extra minutes to the baking time.
