Ingredients
Scale
Filling
- 1 1/2 tablespoons butter
- 1 green bell pepper, chopped
- 1/2 cup onion, chopped
- 1 pound boneless ribeye steak, sliced or coarsely chopped
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 6 slices provolone cheese
Assembly
- 12 egg roll wrappers
- Water for sealing edges
Frying
- Oil for frying, enough to deep fry
Dipping Sauce (Optional)
- Ranch dressing
Instructions
- Prepare the Filling: Melt 1/2 tablespoon butter in a large pan over medium-high heat. Add the chopped green bell pepper and onion, cooking until softened, about 3-5 minutes. Remove the vegetables from the pan and set aside.
- Cook the Steak: In the same pan, melt the remaining 1 tablespoon butter. Season the ribeye steak with salt and pepper, then cook it in the pan over medium-high heat until browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes.
- Combine Filling: Return the sautéed bell peppers and onions to the pan with the cooked steak. Stir well to combine all ingredients evenly and warm through.
- Assemble Egg Rolls: Lay one egg roll wrapper flat on a clean surface. Place half a slice of provolone cheese in the center of the wrapper, then add 2-3 tablespoons of the steak and vegetable mixture on top. Fold the edges over the filling and seal the egg roll by moistening the edges with water.
- Fry: Heat oil in a deep pan or fryer to 350°F (177°C). Fry the egg rolls in batches for 3-5 minutes each, turning occasionally, until they are golden brown and crispy. Drain the fried egg rolls on paper towels.
- Bake Option: For a healthier alternative, preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Lightly coat the assembled egg rolls with cooking spray and place them on a baking sheet. Bake for 15-20 minutes, turning halfway, until golden brown and crispy.
Notes
- Use a sharp knife or pre-sliced ribeye for tender steak pieces.
- Ensure the oil is at the correct temperature before frying to prevent greasy egg rolls.
- The bake option is great for a lighter version and requires less oil.
- Serve with ranch dressing or your favorite dipping sauce for extra flavor.
- Egg roll wrappers can be found in the refrigerated section of most grocery stores.
