Description

This Irresistible Avocado Grilled Cheese combines creamy mashed avocado with melted mozzarella or cheddar cheese, sandwiching fresh, wholesome ingredients between slices of toasted whole grain or sourdough bread. Enhanced with a hint of garlic and lemon juice, this sandwich is a perfect quick and delicious meal for lunch or dinner.

Ingredients

Scale

Bread and Cheese

  • 4 slices of whole grain or sourdough bread
  • 4 slices mozzarella or cheddar cheese

Avocado Mash

  • 1 ripe avocado, peeled, pitted, and mashed
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon sea salt, or to taste
  • Fresh ground black pepper, to taste
  • 1 tablespoon lemon or lime juice

For Grilling

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil or butter

Optional Extras

  • Fresh basil leaves
  • Tomato slices
  • Baby spinach

Instructions

  1. Make the avocado mash: In a small bowl, mash the ripe avocado thoroughly. Add lemon or lime juice, garlic powder, sea salt, and freshly ground black pepper. Mix well and adjust the seasoning according to your taste preferences.
  2. Assemble the sandwiches: Lay out the four slices of bread on a clean surface. Evenly spread the prepared avocado mash on two slices. Top each with two slices of your chosen cheese and optionally add fresh basil, tomato slices, or baby spinach leaves. Close the sandwiches with the remaining bread slices.
  3. Grill the sandwiches: Heat olive oil or butter in a skillet over medium heat. Place each sandwich in the skillet and grill for 3 to 4 minutes on each side until the bread turns golden brown and the cheese has melted completely.
  4. Serve: Remove sandwiches from the skillet and allow them to cool slightly. Slice them and serve warm for the best taste and texture.

Notes

  • Use ripe avocados for a creamy texture and best flavor.
  • You can substitute cheddar or mozzarella with your preferred melting cheese.
  • Adjust garlic powder and lemon juice based on your taste preference.
  • Optional ingredients like tomato, basil, and spinach add freshness and variety.
  • For a crispier sandwich, you may butter the outer sides of the bread before grilling.
