Ingredients
Scale
Ingredients
- 12 large eggs
- 1 cup cold water
- Ice bath (a bowl filled with ice and cold water, quantity as needed to cover eggs)
Instructions
- Prepare the Instant Pot: Pour 1 cup of cold water into the bottom of your 6-quart Instant Pot. Place a steamer basket, egg rack, or trivet inside to hold the eggs above the water level.
- Add the eggs: Arrange 12 large eggs on the steamer basket or rack, ensuring they are stable and not submerged in the water.
- Seal the Instant Pot: Close the lid and make sure the pressure release valve is set to the sealed position to allow pressure cooking.
- Set pressure cooking time: Select the High Pressure setting on the Instant Pot and set a timer for 5 minutes for slightly less cooked yolks or 6 minutes for creamier yolks.
- Cook the eggs: The Instant Pot will take some time to come to pressure, then cook the eggs for the set time. After the timer goes off, allow the pressure to naturally release for an additional 5 minutes before manually releasing the remaining pressure.
- Cool the eggs: Carefully remove the hot eggs using towels and immediately transfer them to a prepared ice water bath. Ensure the eggs are fully submerged to stop the cooking process and let them cool for at least 5 minutes.
- Peel the eggs: Once cooled, gently tap the rounded end of an egg against a hard surface to crack the shell all over. Roll it vigorously to loosen the shell, then peel under cold running water for easier removal.
- Serve and enjoy: Use your perfectly cooked hard-boiled eggs for classic deviled eggs, egg salad sandwiches, or enjoy them simply on their own as a healthy snack.
Notes
- Using an ice bath immediately after cooking prevents overcooking and makes peeling easier.
- Adjust cooking time slightly based on egg size or altitude for preferred yolk consistency.
- Store peeled or unpeeled eggs in the refrigerator for up to one week.
- Be cautious when removing hot eggs from the Instant Pot to avoid burns.
