Description

A comforting and easy-to-make Ground Beef Stroganoff served over fluffy white rice. This classic American main course features browned ground beef simmered in a creamy sauce with onions, garlic, and a blend of savory seasonings, finished with sour cream for a rich texture. Perfect for a quick weeknight dinner that’s both flavorful and satisfying.

Ingredients

Scale

Beef Stroganoff

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 small yellow onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup milk

For Serving

  • 1 cup cooked white rice
  • Chopped parsley (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Sauté Onions and Garlic: Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the diced onion and cook for 2–3 minutes until softened. Add the minced garlic and cook for another 30 seconds until fragrant.
  2. Brown the Ground Beef: Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks to ensure even cooking.
  3. Thicken the Sauce: Sprinkle the flour over the beef mixture and stir to combine. Cook for 1 minute to cook off the raw flour taste.
  4. Add Liquids and Seasonings: Stir in the beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook for 5–7 minutes until the sauce has slightly thickened.
  5. Finish the Sauce: Reduce the heat to low and stir in the sour cream and milk. Mix until well combined and heated through, taking care not to let it boil to prevent curdling.
  6. Serve: Spoon the stroganoff over warm cooked white rice. Garnish with chopped parsley if desired and serve immediately.

Notes

  • For a lighter version, substitute Greek yogurt for sour cream.
  • You can serve this stroganoff with brown rice or egg noodles as alternatives to white rice.
  • Add sliced mushrooms to the skillet along with the onions for added flavor and texture.
