Ingredients
Scale
Beef Stroganoff
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 small yellow onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1/2 cup milk
For Serving
- 1 cup cooked white rice
- Chopped parsley (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
- Sauté Onions and Garlic: Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the diced onion and cook for 2–3 minutes until softened. Add the minced garlic and cook for another 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Brown the Ground Beef: Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks to ensure even cooking.
- Thicken the Sauce: Sprinkle the flour over the beef mixture and stir to combine. Cook for 1 minute to cook off the raw flour taste.
- Add Liquids and Seasonings: Stir in the beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook for 5–7 minutes until the sauce has slightly thickened.
- Finish the Sauce: Reduce the heat to low and stir in the sour cream and milk. Mix until well combined and heated through, taking care not to let it boil to prevent curdling.
- Serve: Spoon the stroganoff over warm cooked white rice. Garnish with chopped parsley if desired and serve immediately.
Notes
- For a lighter version, substitute Greek yogurt for sour cream.
- You can serve this stroganoff with brown rice or egg noodles as alternatives to white rice.
- Add sliced mushrooms to the skillet along with the onions for added flavor and texture.
