Description

Golden & Cheesy Fabulous Fargozas are irresistible savory bread rolls featuring a soft, fluffy texture topped with melted butter and grated Parmesan cheese. These homemade rolls are perfect for serving warm alongside soups, salads, or as a delicious snack on their own.

Ingredients

Scale

Dough Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
  • 1 cup (240ml) warm water (about 110°F / 45°C)
  • 2 tablespoons white sugar
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 1/2 to 3 cups (315–375g) all-purpose flour

Topping Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup (60g) melted butter
  • 1/4 cup (25g) grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast: In a large bowl, dissolve the yeast and sugar in warm water. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until frothy.
  2. Add wet ingredients: Stir in the vegetable oil and salt into the yeast mixture.
  3. Add flour: Gradually mix in 2 1/2 cups of flour. If the dough is too sticky, add more flour a tablespoon at a time until it pulls away from the sides of the bowl.
  4. Knead: Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5–7 minutes, or until it’s smooth and elastic.
  5. Let it rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm spot for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  6. Shape the rolls: Punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a smooth ball.
  7. Second rise: Place the dough balls on a greased or parchment-lined baking sheet. Cover and let them rise again for 30 minutes.
  8. Preheat oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  9. Add toppings: Brush the rolls with melted butter and sprinkle generously with grated Parmesan cheese.
  10. Bake: Bake the rolls for 12–15 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown.
  11. Serve warm: Let the rolls cool slightly and serve warm. Add more butter if desired.

Notes

  • Ensure the water is at the right temperature (about 110°F/45°C) to activate the yeast properly without killing it.
  • If the dough is too sticky while adding flour, add it gradually to avoid a dry dough.
  • Rising times can vary depending on room temperature; the dough should double in size during the first rise.
  • Use parchment paper on the baking sheet for easier cleanup and to prevent sticking.
  • These rolls are best enjoyed fresh and warm for optimal flavor and texture.
