Ingredients
Scale
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
- 1 1/2 cups heavy cream
- 2 cups freshly grated Parmesan cheese
- 2 cloves garlic (minced)
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
- pinch of ground nutmeg (optional)
- chopped fresh parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute, stirring frequently to prevent burning.
- Pour in the heavy cream and stir to combine. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer, then reduce the heat to low and continue to simmer for 4 to 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Gradually whisk in the Parmesan cheese, a handful at a time, until melted and the sauce is smooth. Season with salt, pepper, and nutmeg if using. Continue cooking for another 2 to 3 minutes, stirring until the sauce thickens to your desired consistency.
- Remove from heat and serve immediately over pasta, vegetables, or chicken. Garnish with chopped parsley if desired.
Notes
- For a lighter version, you can substitute half-and-half for heavy cream, though the sauce will be thinner.
- Always use freshly grated Parmesan for best flavor and texture—pre-shredded cheese may not melt smoothly.
