Description

Cowboy Butter is a flavorful compound butter that combines fresh herbs, garlic, lemon zest, and smoky paprika to enhance your meats and vegetables. This versatile butter can be used as a dipping sauce or sliced into rounds to melt over grilled steak, roasted veggies, or warm bread, adding a rich and zesty finishing touch.

Ingredients

Scale

Ingredients

  • 8 tbsp unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1 tbsp chopped fresh chives
  • 1 tbsp chopped fresh parsley
  • ½ tbsp dijon mustard
  • ½ tsp lemon zest
  • ½ tsp smoked paprika
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)

Instructions

  1. Combine Ingredients: Add the softened unsalted butter, chopped chives, parsley, dijon mustard, lemon zest, smoked paprika, black pepper, and minced garlic to a medium bowl. Use a spatula to mix everything together thoroughly until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.
  2. Use as a Dipping Sauce: To serve as a dipping sauce, transfer the mixed butter to a small dish and gently melt it, allowing it to be used as a warm, flavorful dip for bread, seafood, or vegetables.
  3. Make Compound Butter Log: Lay a piece of plastic wrap flat on a clean surface. Scrape the butter mixture into the center of the wrap. Shape the butter into a log, then tightly roll it up by twisting the plastic wrap ends to seal. Refrigerate the log until it firms up, about 1 hour. Once chilled, slice into buttery coins to top grilled meats, steamed veggies, or baked potatoes for added richness and flavor.

Notes

  • Allow the butter to soften at room temperature before mixing to make combining easier.
  • Store wrapped butter log in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks or freeze for longer storage.
  • Adjust smoked paprika and black pepper to taste for spice intensity.
  • Compound butter is excellent on steak, chicken, fish, roasted vegetables, or fresh bread.
  • Let sliced butter melt naturally on hot foods for best flavor release.
