Description

Celebrate the holiday season with these festive Christmas Tree Spinach Dip Breadsticks. Layers of creamy spinach and cheese filling are sandwiched between crescent roll dough, then shaped and twisted into a beautiful tree. Perfect as a party appetizer or a fun snack, this recipe combines creamy, cheesy flavors with a golden, flaky crust for a crowd-pleasing treat.

Ingredients

Scale

Spinach Dip Filling

  • 1 (8 oz) package cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup frozen chopped spinach, thawed and drained
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Dough and Topping

  • 2 cans refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • Optional: sesame seeds or grated Parmesan for topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Baking Sheet. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ensure easy cleanup.
  2. Make the Spinach Dip Filling. In a medium bowl, mix together the softened cream cheese, sour cream, grated Parmesan, shredded mozzarella, thawed and drained chopped spinach, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper until well combined and smooth. Set this mixture aside.
  3. Roll Out First Dough Layer. Roll out one can of the refrigerated crescent roll dough directly onto the prepared baking sheet. Pinch the seams together carefully to form one continuous sheet of dough.
  4. Spread the Filling. Evenly spread the spinach dip mixture across the surface of the dough, leaving about a 1/2-inch border untouched around the edges to help with sealing.
  5. Add Second Dough Layer. Roll out the second can of crescent roll dough and carefully place it over the spinach dip layer. Press gently along the edges to seal the two dough layers together, enclosing the filling.
  6. Shape the Tree. Using a sharp knife or pizza cutter, cut the dough into a large triangle shape resembling a Christmas tree. Reserve any excess dough for additional decorations if desired.
  7. Create Branches by Twisting. Cut horizontal slices along both sides of the triangle, stopping 1 inch from the center to leave a solid “trunk.” Twist each slice gently away from the center to resemble tree branches.
  8. Apply Egg Wash and Add Toppings. Brush the entire surface of the shaped tree with the beaten egg to promote browning. Sprinkle with sesame seeds or additional grated Parmesan cheese if desired for extra flavor and decoration.
  9. Bake the Breadsticks. Bake the assembled spinach dip breadstick tree in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the dough is golden brown and puffed up.
  10. Cool and Serve. Remove from the oven and let the breadstick tree cool for about 5 minutes to allow the filling to set slightly before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • Make sure to thoroughly drain the thawed spinach to prevent soggy dough.
  • You can add extra herbs like dill or parsley to the spinach dip for added flavor.
  • For a nut-free option, omit sesame seeds from toppings.
  • Use a pizza cutter for cleaner and easier slicing of dough.
  • This recipe can be doubled for larger gatherings.
  • Serve with marinara sauce or ranch dressing for dipping.
