Description

This delightful Chocolate Peppermint Bark combines rich semi-sweet chocolate with creamy white chocolate infused with refreshing peppermint extract, topped with crushed peppermint candies for a sweet and minty holiday treat. Easy to make and perfect for festive occasions or gifting.

Ingredients

Scale

Chocolate Layer

  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

White Chocolate Peppermint Layer

  • 16 ounces white chocolate wafers (preferably Ghirardelli)
  • 1/2 teaspoon peppermint extract
  • 3/4 cups crushed peppermints (or candy canes)

Instructions

  1. Melt Semi-Sweet Chocolate: Pour the semi-sweet chocolate chips into a glass bowl and microwave in 30-second increments, stirring well between each until the chocolate is completely melted and smooth.
  2. Spread Semi-Sweet Chocolate: Using an offset spatula or knife, spread the melted chocolate into a 9×13 inch rectangle on a clean counter or parchment paper. Allow it to cool and set at room temperature without refrigeration to ensure the top layer adheres properly.
  3. Melt White Chocolate and Add Peppermint: Place the white chocolate wafers in a glass bowl and microwave in 30-second increments, stirring until smooth. Stir in the peppermint extract until well combined.
  4. Spread White Chocolate Layer and Add Toppings: Spread the peppermint-flavored white chocolate evenly over the set semi-sweet chocolate layer. Immediately sprinkle the crushed peppermints evenly over the top. Let it harden completely at room temperature.
  5. Cut and Serve: Once the bark is fully set and hardened, use a sharp knife to cut into pieces. Serve and enjoy your festive peppermint bark!

Notes

  • Do not refrigerate the semi-sweet chocolate layer before adding the white chocolate, as it may prevent proper adhesion.
  • You can substitute peppermint extract with peppermint oil or omit it if you prefer a less minty flavor.
  • Crushed candy canes can be used as an alternative to peppermints for a more rustic texture.
  • Store the bark in an airtight container at room temperature to maintain freshness.
  • Microwave melting times may vary depending on your appliance; always stir thoroughly to avoid burning.
