Ingredients
Scale
Protein
- 1 lb Ground Beef
Vegetables
- 4 cups Green Cabbage, sliced
- 1 cup Shiitake Mushrooms, sliced
- 4 Green Onions, chopped (plus more for garnish)
- 2 cloves Garlic, minced
- 1 inch Ginger, minced
Sauces and Oils
- 3 tbsp Soy Sauce
- 1 tbsp Oyster Sauce (optional)
- 1 tbsp Sesame Oil
- 1 tbsp Vegetable Oil (for cooking)
Seasoning
- Salt & Pepper to taste
To Serve
- Cooked Rice
Instructions
- Sauté Aromatics: Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the minced garlic, minced ginger, and chopped green onions. Cook for about 1 minute until fragrant, taking care not to burn the garlic.
- Brown the Beef: Add the ground beef to the skillet. Cook, breaking it up with a spatula, until it is fully browned and crumbled. Season lightly with salt and pepper during this step to build flavor.
- Add Veggies: Toss in the sliced green cabbage and shiitake mushrooms. Stir-fry everything together for 5 to 7 minutes until the vegetables are tender but still crisp, maintaining their bright texture.
- Flavor It Up: Stir in the soy sauce, optional oyster sauce, and sesame oil. Mix well to coat the beef and vegetables evenly. Cook for another 2 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
- Serve: Spoon the stir-fry over hot cooked rice. Garnish with additional chopped green onions for a fresh, vibrant finish. Serve immediately.
Notes
- For a vegetarian version, substitute ground beef with crumbled tofu or tempeh.
- Oyster sauce can be omitted or replaced with hoisin sauce for a different flavor profile.
- Adjust the soy sauce to your preferred salt level, or use low-sodium soy sauce for lower salt intake.
- Use a wok if available for better stir-frying results, but a large skillet works just as well.
- Ensure vegetables are not overcooked to maintain a pleasant crunch in the dish.
