- 1 cup water
- 4 chai tea bags
- 1 cup cane sugar
Hot Chocolate
- 1 cup almond milk
- 4-6 squares dark chocolate, chopped
- 1 tbsp cacao powder
- Ground cinnamon, to taste
- Small pinch sea salt
- Whipped cream, for topping (optional)
- Additional chai spice, for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Steep the chai tea: In a saucepan, combine the water and chai tea bags and bring to a gentle simmer. Allow to steep for 5 minutes to extract the spicy flavors. Then, remove the tea bags carefully.
- Make the chai syrup: Stir in the cane sugar into the hot chai tea until it is completely dissolved, creating a sweet chai syrup base.
- Add milk and melt chocolate: Pour the almond milk into the saucepan and warm it over low heat. Add the chopped dark chocolate and stir continuously until the chocolate is fully melted and the mixture is smooth.
- Finish the hot chocolate: Stir in the chai syrup along with the cacao powder, ground cinnamon, and a small pinch of sea salt to enhance the depth of flavors.
- Serve: Pour the hot chocolate into mugs. Top with whipped cream and a sprinkle of additional chai spice if desired. Serve immediately and enjoy the comforting warmth.
Notes
- Use dark chocolate with at least 70% cocoa for a richer flavor and less sweetness.
- Almond milk can be substituted with other plant-based milks or regular milk depending on dietary preference.
- Adjust the amount of cane sugar according to your sweetness preference.
- The chai spice blend can vary; common ingredients include cinnamon, cardamom, ginger, cloves, and black pepper.
- For a dairy-free whipped cream alternative, use coconut-based or soy-based whipped cream.
