Description

This classic Beef and Broccoli Stir-Fry is a quick and flavorful Asian-inspired meal perfect for busy weeknights. Tender flank steak is marinated and seared to perfection, then tossed with crisp-tender broccoli in a savory sauce made from soy, oyster, hoisin, and sesame oils. Ready in just 25 minutes, this dish offers a balanced mix of protein and vegetables, garnished with sesame seeds and green onions for extra freshness.

Ingredients

Scale

Beef Marinade

  • 1 pound flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • Pinch of pepper

Stir-Fry Sauce

  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce (remaining)
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
  • 1/2 cup beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil

Vegetables and Aromatics

  • 3 cups broccoli florets
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated

Cooking Oils and Garnishes

  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Sesame seeds for garnish (optional)
  • Sliced green onions for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Marinate the beef: In a medium bowl, combine the thinly sliced flank steak with 1 tablespoon soy sauce, cornstarch, and a pinch of pepper. Mix well and let it marinate for 15 minutes. This helps tenderize the meat and allows the cornstarch to create a light coating that will thicken the sauce later.
  2. Prepare the stir-fry sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together the remaining soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, beef broth, brown sugar, and sesame oil. Set this sauce mixture aside.
  3. Cook the broccoli: Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the broccoli florets and a splash of water to generate steam. Stir-fry for 2 to 3 minutes until the broccoli is crisp-tender but still bright green. Remove broccoli from the skillet and set aside.
  4. Sear the beef: Add the remaining tablespoon of vegetable oil to the skillet. Spread the marinated beef in a single layer and cook without stirring for 1 to 2 minutes on one side until browned. Flip the pieces and cook for another 1 to 2 minutes until the beef is just cooked through.
  5. Add garlic and ginger: Stir in the minced garlic and grated ginger into the beef and cook for about 30 seconds until fragrant, making sure not to burn the garlic.
  6. Combine with broccoli and sauce: Return the cooked broccoli to the skillet. Pour the prepared stir-fry sauce over the beef and broccoli, stirring everything together to coat evenly. Cook for an additional 2 minutes until the sauce thickens and the ingredients are well combined.
  7. Finish and serve: Remove the skillet from heat. Optionally, garnish with toasted sesame seeds and sliced green onions for added flavor and texture. Serve immediately over steamed rice or noodles if desired.

Notes
