Description

These Avocado Chicken Burgers are a delicious and healthy twist on the classic burger, featuring juicy ground chicken patties packed with flavorful ingredients like parmesan, garlic, and sage. Topped with creamy avocado, Swiss cheese, fresh rocket, and ripe tomato slices, they offer a perfect balance of taste and nutrition, ideal for a quick and satisfying meal.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 500g/1.2 lb ground chicken (mince)
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 3/4 cup parmesan, finely grated
  • 1 cup green onion, finely sliced (~2 stems)
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1/2 tsp dried sage
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp pepper
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

Burger Assembly

  • 4 soft burger buns or brioche buns
  • 1 large avocado (or 2 medium)
  • 60g / 2 oz rocket/arugula or other lettuce of choice
  • 2 tomatoes, sliced
  • 4 slices Swiss cheese (or other cheese)
  • Mayonnaise, relish, ketchup, or tomato sauce (to smear lid)

Sides

  • French fries
  • Baked potato wedges

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Patty Mixture: In a large bowl, combine the ground chicken, panko breadcrumbs, egg, grated parmesan, finely sliced green onions, minced garlic, dried sage, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are evenly incorporated to create a uniform chicken mixture.
  2. Shape Patties: Divide the mixture into four equal portions and form each into a round, flat patty roughly the size of the burger buns.
  3. Cook the Patties: Heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until the internal temperature reaches 74°C (165°F) and the patties are golden brown and cooked through.
  4. Prepare Buns and Toppings: While the patties are cooking, slice the tomatoes and avocado. Lightly toast the burger buns if desired.
  5. Assemble the Burgers: Spread mayonnaise, relish, ketchup, or tomato sauce on the inside of the buns. Place a lettuce leaf or rocket on the bottom bun, followed by the cooked chicken patty. Top each patty with a slice of Swiss cheese, slices of avocado, and tomato.
  6. Serve: Cover with the top bun and serve immediately with a side of French fries or baked potato wedges.

Notes

  • Note 1: Ground chicken should be fresh and preferably lean for best results.
  • Note 2: Parmesan adds a savory depth but can be substituted with Pecorino or Romano for variation.
  • Note 3: Dried sage provides a subtle earthiness, but fresh sage can be used if available.
  • Ensure patties are cooked thoroughly to avoid any food safety issues.
  • For a lower-fat option, use light olive oil and whole wheat buns.
