Salad Ingredients
- 20 oz tuna in water (four 5-oz cans), well drained
- 1 medium onion (1 1/3 cup finely diced)
- 1 medium Granny Smith apple, seeded and diced
- 1 avocado, pitted, peeled, and diced
- 3/4 cup real mayonnaise (or added to taste)
- 1/2 tsp fresh lemon juice (or to taste)
- 1/2 cup sliced almonds or chopped walnuts, toasted
- 1/8 tsp black pepper (or to taste)
Instructions
- Toast Nuts: Heat a dry skillet over medium heat and toast the sliced almonds or chopped walnuts until golden brown and fragrant. Remove from the heat and let them cool slightly to bring out their flavor and crunch.
- Drain Tuna: Open the cans of tuna and press down firmly on the lid inside the can to squeeze out as much water as possible. This step is important to prevent a watery salad and maintain a good texture.
- Combine Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the drained tuna, finely diced onion, diced Granny Smith apple, diced avocado, and toasted nuts. Add black pepper and fresh lemon juice to taste. Finally, add mayonnaise gradually, mixing well, until you reach your desired creaminess and flavor balance.
Notes
- To toast nuts, stir frequently to avoid burning and ensure even coloring.
- Adjust mayonnaise and lemon juice quantities to suit your taste preference.
- The salad can be served chilled or at room temperature.
- This salad stores well in the refrigerator for up to 2 days, but the avocado may brown over time.
- For a crunchier texture, add nuts just before serving.
