- 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
Wet Ingredients:
- 2 cups unsweetened applesauce
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Optional Add-Ins:
- 1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans
- 1 cup raisins
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease/flour a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves.
- Combine Wet Ingredients: In another bowl, beat sugar, oil, and eggs; then mix in applesauce and vanilla.
- Blend: Gradually add dry ingredients to wet, fold in nuts and raisins if using.
- Bake: Pour batter into the dish, bake for 40–45 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Cool and Serve: Let the cake cool in the pan before serving.
Notes
- You can dust the cooled cake with powdered sugar or add a glaze.
- For a dairy-free version, use vegan sugar and flax eggs as substitutes.
