Description

A classic Amish Applesauce Cake that’s moist, flavorful, and perfect for fall. This spiced cake is easy to prepare and makes a delightful dessert for any occasion.

  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves

Wet Ingredients:

  • 2 cups unsweetened applesauce
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Optional Add-Ins:

  • 1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans
  • 1 cup raisins


Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease/flour a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves.
  3. Combine Wet Ingredients: In another bowl, beat sugar, oil, and eggs; then mix in applesauce and vanilla.
  4. Blend: Gradually add dry ingredients to wet, fold in nuts and raisins if using.
  5. Bake: Pour batter into the dish, bake for 40–45 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. Cool and Serve: Let the cake cool in the pan before serving.

Notes

  • You can dust the cooled cake with powdered sugar or add a glaze.
  • For a dairy-free version, use vegan sugar and flax eggs as substitutes.
